About Aaron Spong
I am a Colorado artist and art teacher who specializes in traditional art as well as landscape/wildlife photography. My family and I live on the beautiful front range with a great view of the Rocky Mountains. As teachers, we spend much of our summer vacation time in the mountains hiking, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. It is during these special adventures that I find my inspiration for many of my drawings, paintings and photographs.
"We make in our measure and in our derivative mode, because we are made: and not only made, but made in the image and likeness of a Maker." - J.R.R. Tolkien
I believe that God is "the great artist," and any efforts that we make to create or copy His glory only pale in comparison to the beauty of His work. No painting or photograph can ever do justice to witnessing the creation in person.
In many of my works, under my signature I write the phrase "SOLI DEO GLORIA" which means "Glory to God Alone" in Latin. This is a practice done by artists and composers in history to give God the credit for their accomplishments. A good artist teacher friend of mine used to write this on all of his paintings and I decided to incorporate it into my own work as well.
