Description
Up close and personal shot of a cow elk. This elk was found, or rather found us, while my dad and I were hiking in Yellowstone National Park. We first saw her at a distance and she also noticed us. We had read the signs about not approaching wildlife, but this elk approached us. Actually she ran over to us and then started charging after us. It was quite scary. We would back away from her slowly then she would come closer to us. I took a swing at her with my tripod to scare her away. She would back away then come right back toward us. Apparently, there are a lot of elk in the area that week that were becoming aggressive and causing issues with tourists at the park. She finally spotted some other hikers or something and left us alone. We didn't hang around to find out where she went. Our best guess is that she was a mother and she was being protective of her young somewhere nearby.
