Libera was a goddess of wine, fertility and freedom. She is the female equal to the God Liber in Rome, a pair of fertility and cultivation deities of uncertain origin. The triad Ceres, Liber, and Libera represented in Rome, from early times and always under Greek influence, the Eleusinian Demeter.
Wine can be described as a woman; Complex or voluptuous, with body or with floral after-tones. The goddess of wine is shaped like a surreal hourglass figure--or wine glass having all the attributes of life and juiciness. I'm sure whole books of words could be used.
The goddess Libera is also a form of the word 'Liberty'. I depicted pure freedom in this work as an almost androgynous cup flowing in all directions. Bacchus, the male wine god shows up vaguely. Red is a color of fertility and strength. It almost defies description. Pink and purple are air and spirit. Libera says breathe in the complex vapor and fine wine of life.
